During the last two decades, advanced two-dimensional materials have demonstrated their disruptive advantages to enable new applications in various industries ranging from semiconductors, medical diagnostics, photonics, energy storage, and others. Unique material properties resulting from their two-dimensional nature, coupled with ultra-low power consumption requirements make them viable material candidates to replace current technologies. However, several challenges exist in the wide-scale commercialization of applications using two-dimensional materials. One major challenge exists in the severe lack of access to high-grade, single-crystalline 2D materials to meet industrial volume production demands. This challenge has become a major barrier limiting the development and exploitation of emerging technologies using 2D materials. Scale2DPro project aims to overcome this challenge by developing production lines capable of producing high-grade 2D materials to meet industrial volume requirements. The consortium combines its extensive R&D expertise in 2D material production and developing production systems for nanomaterial manufacturing towards developing 2D materials to meet the growing demand from the industry within the EU and worldwide. Our project covers advanced manufacturing processes sustainable manufacturing research domains and consumer and capital goods sectors within the SMART roadmap. Our project contributes to strengthening the supply chain of raw materials essential for the commercialization and development of the emerging technology industry within the EU.
