Abstract
Automatic assembly and quality assurance are not new in the industry. However, when it comes to the aerospace industry, assembly and scanning of aircraft parts are manual governed operations. The present project aims to evaluate the use of collaborative robots and related automated activities within manufacturing, assembly and inspection operations. A mobile robotics system will be designed, develop and integrated into assembly lines. Complete digital 3D scans of the aircraft parts will be created and fitted into main aircraft body. Manufacturing operations will be defined to be efficiently automated covering: forming, quality assurance, stiffeners integration, blind fasteners and increase the use of heating tools capabilities for repairs. The final goal is to demonstrate a production cell which will integrate efficient manufacturing processes intended for parts assembly, visual inspection of individual parts, robot assisted for assembly and quality assurance of the final product by 3D scanning techniques.
