Abstract
The AIM project tackles key post-processing challenges in mould-making and plastic parts manufacturing by implementing an innovative, holistic approach within the automotive value chain. Leveraging advanced manufacturing processes and intelligent adaptive systems, the project seeks to streamline or eliminate operations, achieving significant reductions in production time, energy consumption, and GHG emissions. Key innovations include integrating compliant tooling for automated polishing in CNC machines, enabling precise and repeatable surface finishing for complex geometries, and developing an in-mould coating process for thermoplastic polymers. These advancements address technical hurdles like freeform geometries, surface roughness requirements, and durable multi-material parts production, especially for automotive lighting applications.
