LIFTS is a transdisciplinary project that combines the complementary expertise of a lubricant manufacturer from Turkey (Belgin Oil), a research organization from Portugal (CENTIMFE), and a glass mould manufacturer as industrial end-user from Portugal (Vidrimolde). The project aims to develop and industrially validate a biodegradable, water-miscible metalworking fluid (MWF) integrated with an intelligent inline fluid management system for glass mould production. Belgin Oil will develop a sustainable, biodegradable and human-safe MWF for precision metalworking applications. CENTIMFE will lead the development of a digital monitoring and control system integrating sensors, data acquisition and adaptive algorithms to optimize fluid condition and usage. Vidrimolde, as industrial end-user, will validate the integrated solution under real production conditions. LIFTS addresses critical challenges related to rapid MWF degradation, high consumption rates and environmental impact observed in current industrial practices. By extending MWF lifetime by at least 50% and reducing annual consumption and waste, the project will deliver an integrated solution combining formulation, process optimization and industrial validation, contributing directly to greener manufacturing and EU Green Deal objectives.
