Abstract
SynthAI will develop an industrial-grade synthetic data and AI platform that enables trustworthy, scalable AI deployment in manufacturing. Today, most industrial AI projects stall at pilot stage due to scarce, fragmented and noisy data, limited machine connectivity, rare failure examples and rapidly changing processes. This leads to long development cycles, brittle models and limited return on investment. SynthAI addresses these bottlenecks by combining interoperable data pipelines with multi-modal synthetic data generation, physics-informed simulation and Sim-to-Real validation in a single, process-agnostic platform. An open-core, on-premise-capable solution will connect to heterogeneous shop-floor systems via OPC UA/umati, MTConnect, MQTT and file interfaces, analyze data gaps and use a domain-tuned large language model to plan and explain synthetic data pipelines. Libraries of generative models for tabular, time-series, image and 3D/physics data will create realistic, parameterizable and high quality labelled datasets, including rare events and long-tail operating conditions. Built-in governance features – Synthetic Data Cards, model cards, lineage tracking and explainable AI tools – will support transparency, risk management and compliance with the EU AI Act. Standardized semantics based on OPC UA, Asset Administration Shell and Digital Product Passport will ensure reuse and traceability of both real and synthetic data across organizations and value chains. The platform will be demonstrated in five industrial use cases: PCB production, CNC machining, injection molding, aerospace bearing hardening and additive manufacturing in Germany, Portugal, Turkey and Finland. Across these pilots, SynthAI targets 10–30% reductions in scrap and rework, test and cycle times and unplanned downtime, contributing to higher first-pass yield, lower energy use and reduced CO₂ emissions. By transforming disconnected data silos and bespoke AI models into interoperable, reusable synthetic-data-driven workflows, SynthAI will strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in trustworthy industrial AI and provide a foundation for new data-driven products and services.
