Abstract
The purpose of the project proposal AddDies is to develop a disruptive concept of manufacturing forging tools with surface protection using special layers from powder melted by laser beam. This concept uses innovative manufacturing technologies for Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) by wire and powder, and Selective Laser Melting (SLM) for modelling the properties of the fabricated components. The project culminates in the manufacture of demonstration products for automotive capital consumer goods sectors. The development will focus on new manufacturing solutions for dies, whose challenges will be tackled together by the industries and RTO partners involved in this proposal. The possibility of reproducing the failure modes (thermal/mechanical fatigue, abrasion, impact, plastic deformation) at laboratory and modeling mechanical properties for different zones of a component, according to the demands of fatigue and wear, to which it is subjected throughout its life, now becomes feasible thanks to the use of new technologies for 3D Additive Manufacturing tailored as a function of the needs identified.
