SMARTTEX-4D aims to reshore textile manfuacturing with an on-demand, Industry 5.0-oriented manufacturing ecosystem. By integrating advanced textiles with additive manufacturing (AM), the project aims to deliver personalised, lightweight technical textile products.
The project also aims to establish a digital design-to-production workflow that connects 3D body scanning, AI algorithmic lattice optimisation and direct-on-textile AM (3D printing), orchestrated by a cloud-based Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
Led by Ganttex (Czechia), the multidisciplinary consortium will develop and validate an AI-assisted lattice structure design optimisation and on-demand manufacturing via 3D printing, representing to step change from mass offshore production. The flagship demonstrator is a personalised knee protector with adaptive stiffness, supported by a secondary demonstrator – personalised protective vests. SMARTTEX-4D promises to industrialise high-value, personalised, and sustainable technical textiles, strengthening industrial sovereignty through reshoring textile European production.
